Data sources

Every figure on Sixth Element is labelled with where it came from. Here is what each source is and what we're permitted to do with it.

Three kinds of information

  • Raw data — figures received from a source: SEC filings or a licensed provider.
  • Calculated data — ratios, growth rates, TTM figures and scores we compute from raw data.
  • AI interpretation — plain-English explanations generated only from data we're permitted to use that way.

SEC EDGAR

Company fundamentals can be ingested from the SEC's public XBRL “company facts” data: reported values, fiscal periods, filing dates and accession numbers. We identify ourselves to the SEC, stay well under its rate limits, and only fetch in background jobs — never on your page view.

Licensed market data

Stock prices, dividends and splits, and companies' reported financial statements come from Tiingo under a commercial agreement that covers showing them, and our calculations from them, to Sixth Element members. Tiingo's fundamentals cover a subset of companies; where a company's statements aren't included, its page shows real prices and says which answers don't have enough data — nothing is estimated or filled in. This data isn't available through any developer API.

Usage rights by source

The app checks these entitlements before storing data, showing it, exporting it or sending it to an AI model. “Unverified” blocks the use until a license has been reviewed.
